44. Mainstream Rock and Roll
Like most people, the music I enjoy most is the music I grew up listening to. I haven’t really fallen in love with more than a handful of new bands in the past twelve years.
It’s not to say that I’m turned off by new music, or that I think all music today stinks. There are bands that my friends turned me on to that I really dig. But that’s the problem. I had to hear about them from someone else.
As I am writing this, there isn’t one major rock station on the radio in the New York metro area. I know I’m dating myself because who listens to the radio for music anymore anyway, right? Trust me, I get that. But for as many good things as the internet did for music, it also singlehandedly destroyed mainstream rock. Video killed the radio star, and the internet killed the rock star.
oh look what comes up when you search Charlene Kaye on iTunes… ;D

2/18/11, throwback.
We had a lot going on this past friday, Stony came to co-host and two of the other guys from the station crashed the show, Etan Wishnevski (from Uncharted Waves) came in to share his new adventures with Hound Comics, and Tom Gubelli, the news director and host of Addicted To Rock came to join in on the fun.
Also, I got a phone call during the intermission at Starship from Ash, of the StarKid Committee, and a member of Team StarKid, Nicholas Joseph Strauss-Matathia. Listeners Amanda & Kris called in. Topics range from Glee, homosexuality, Newsies, children’s books, Starship (Team Starkid’s 4th production, going on NOW in Chicago) and SO MUCH MORE.
